Twas the Night, my turn

I must say, this is one of the best hops I was ever in.  A BIG HUGE THANK YOU to Madame Samm and Marlene for coming up with this great idea to exchange gifts with other talented quilters.

The gifts we made for each others and those on our Christmas lists, were to be made in 3 hours or less.

First, let me show you what I received from Leah at Quilted Delights.

Everything came in this beautiful bag:

2 little hand "snap" coin purses:

Inside were these mouth watering chocolates:

A cute needle holder,

3 cute scrubbies,

(I seen dishcloths, but these are smaller, and work so much better)

And...my favorite candy, how I'd you know Leah?

I myself, had a rough month, but I did get a few wallets made:

And a few small wallets for our neices:

I am working on making each of our neices a Christmas Stocking.  (A Santa, a snowman, and an Angel)  (believe it or not I have been working on them for almost 2 weeks, yup, it's been a rough month) 

I did get some pincushions made.  I could hand sew these while sitting in my chair.  

I also want to make each of our neices a doll.  I chose these fabrics.

I made these small dolls the day this hop was announced.  They didn't  turn out quite like what I wanted, so I plan on keeping them for samples.  These were like a test run...now I know just how I want to make them.

Before you leave, I want to introduce you to my new tool.  I LOVE IT!!!   That is my "Beam n' Read".  The BEST gift anyone could get.....

I could tell you all about the extra wide personal light from 6 LED's, that DON'T get hot and will not disturb others.

I could tell you how you can switch from 6 LED's to using only 3 LED's and about the adjustible strap.

I could tell you how you can plug it in to household currant (which the cord does not get into your way at all) or use 4 AA batteries (that can last up to 50 hours) and go anywhere with it.  Oh, and how it comes with a large acrylic magnifier and 2 clip on filters for night vision.

BUT....

The best part to me is that with my bad eyes, I can see.  Now, that is what means the most to me!

I now can do any close up work and see.  Whether it be my embroidery or painting.  I can see like I did when I was in my 20's!  All I can say is Thank you Very Much!!!!

Now, come join me and see what others are making for Christmas.     I don't  know about you but I am getting so many ideas as what I can make.  (YEAH!)

Another Job Done

I am ready and excited for tomorrow.  It is the first day of "Tis the Season" hop.

I can't wait to see what was made.  This is a great group of quilters, that do magnificent work.  I do hope you join me.

Today I am quilting.  I made a few gifts already and have a few more to go.

I took some time off quilting this weekend and have been doing my fall house cleaning.   Believe it or not, I had some fun.  I put my Christmas music on and turned up the stereo. (This was always everyone cue to get out of my way or help, lol)

I love cleaning and organizing, then look back and see how neat it looks.   My cabinets look so neat and organized.  I wonder how long it will last.  :)

For now, off to my room I go......

November already? plus, Winner announced

I can't believe that it is November already.  The leaves on our trees are only starting to turn that pretty orange, yellow, red, and rust colors.  Most are still green but our nights are getting colder so it is just a matter of time.

I hate seeing  my flowers die but on the other hand, it is nice to get into the cooler weather.  It was a hot summer.

On another note, I am really happy with myself.  Last week a good frind of mine taught me how she does her paper piecing.  She does it kinda different then I was showed originally.   I practiced a couple sample blocks, then finished what I was doing.  I got out my new fabric and started on my first paper pieced quilt.    The blocks will take time to make, just learning.  But I am having fun with it.  (Guess that is all that matters).

I am using Christmas fabrics and hope to have it finished before Thanksgiving so we can enjoy it this year.  (I will show it when it is finished.  I just have so many other items to make for Christmas)

It's Black Cat Crossing w/Giveaway!

Good morning, and what a GREAT morning it is.  Today is my day to show what I have made for the "Black Cat Crossing" and I am so ready.

I want to thank Madame Samm and Wicked Wendy for all their hard work putting this all together for us.  I must admit, I love these "Spooky" hops.  Thanks guys!

Well, I got out my trusty pencil and paper and started to draw.  Oh, this time  I came up with two designs this time.

First one is this little guy:

I needed something narrow and long to put on top of my table where I keep my one plant.  (The table looked so plain.)

I found some skeleton fabric that seemed to match.  (Unfortunately, I  didn't get to purchase any of those beautiful Maywood fabrics.  I used what I found in my stash.)

Here he is....All ready for Halloween:

I used my fabric paints to help set him off.

(Check out the glittered glasses)

 

Then I drew this little guy:

I machine appliqued them both with monofilament thread.

I didn't have a lot of the orange fabric, so I used both the orange and black for a small boarder.

(Again I used my fabric paints)

Oh, I got just the spot for him for Halloween.

Are You Ready??

Are you ready???   I hope so, cause you will now want to miss it.  The "Black Cat Crossing" hop starts on Monday!

I have been working on mine, diligently and finished it today.  Ah, but you have to wait till it is my turn to see it.  

Today, I would like to share one of our favorite fall deserts.  (I must say one, cause we got many.)   

       Apple Cake

First peel, core, and dice 5 medium apples.  Set aside.

  

Next mix together in a large bowl:

   

    2   Cups Sugar

    2   Cups Flour

    1 tsp.  Baking Powder

    1  tsp. Baking Soda

    1  tsp.  Cinnamon

    Pinch of salt

    2   Eggs

    1 1/2   Sticks butter  (3/4 cup)

    1   Cup nuts. (We prefer pecans)

    1   Cup milk

Add the apples and pour mixture into a greased cake pan.  Bake at 350° until a toothpick comes out clean.

Serve warm with ice cream or enjoy with your favorite cup of coffee.

Oh, I know what I am having when I visit all the wonderful creations.   I will not miss a one and I hope you join me.

October Quilt Guild in Weakly Co TN

This month our Quilt Guild had a "Sit and Sew".  "What is that" you ask?  That is when you bring along what you are working on to the meeting.  Most bring in hand sewing but you can bring your machine if you wish.  Then we sit around, work on our projects and talk. 

This time Linda Arant brought in a project she needed help with.  Unfortunately, she broke  her  wrist and couldn't get it all done.  (Linda was working on a project for Greenbriar Assisted Living here in Martin, TN.)

It was a lot of fun, everyone worked together.

We also got a lesson from Gail Young on "Needle Turn Appliqué ".  She brought in some samples and did a wonderful job explaining how we can all master it.

We all got a 1 on 1 explination, and everyone was all ears.  She did a "Great" job,  Thank you Gail!

Two of her quilts she brought along as a sample:

Her "Snowmen" above and "Sue Bonnet Sue" below, both done by hand using her needle turn appliqué  technique.

We also had some "Beautiful" Show and Tell:

Tillie came up with a unique star quilt using up some of her scraps.

This is Joyce's wool quilt.  She said it took her almost a year to complete.   All was done by hand.  (It would have taken me a lot longer then a year, that's for sure.)  She did a "Beautiful" job.

Nancy brought in her placemats.  You know making these is like making 8 mini quilts.  I liked her fabric choices.

And Barb brought in some great refreshments.  Every month she takes the time to bake for us.  Then she comes early to set it up and decorate  it in the theme of the  month.  (That also  includes a cold drink and fresh coffee. )

Thank you Barb... It is greatly appreciated!

We have a "GREAT" bunch of ladies.

Next month we are going on a field trip to "Back Yard Fabrics and then Patty's.

I can't wait!

I got a lot to do till then.  So back to my room I go.

It's Pumpkin Time!!

Fall, the time of year when you see pumpkins everywhere.  I never knew there were so many recipes for pumpkins.  You name it and someone is making it with Pumpkins.  At our house, we love Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Cookies, and my favorite is Pumpkin Roll.

I always had a lot of fun over the next few Holidays with my kids.  (Actually, I always had a lot of fun with my kids)  But now that they are  all grown....guess I have to make my own fun,  :)   

I got a new pattern and a new tool at the Paducah Quilt show this past April.   (The Lil twister)  

I finally had the chance to make this quilt and try my ruler out.

As you can see, I made lots of 3 inch squares, carefully sewing them together here the pattern suggested.

Here, as above you can see how I cut with my Lil Twister Tool.  (Which was a 2 inch square)

The tricky part, which really wasn't  tricky, I just had to be careful.  Alter each row was cut, your turned them to the right and sewed them together.   After a few rows I could see the pattern and felt more at ease.  I was afraid I was going to get them mixed up and not notice it, until it would be too late.  I was in visioning a lot of ripping.

Actually, no ripping!  I was proud of myself!.  Till I quilted it.   I did an all over random quilting.  I am not sure if I had stretched it too hard on my frame (cause of all the bias ends) or did too much quilting.  But I just don't like how it tuned out.  Guess I will just have to do it again!

For now it will do, but I am going to use this tool again, that's for sure!   It was too much fun.   (I just loved these colors too.)

For now I am too busy.   I got some ideas as to what I am making for the next hop.
