Missy's Teal & Coffee Quilt

I have just finished making a special quilt for my son’s fiancĂ©.  I made it with Teal and Coffee colored fabrics.  I am very pleased as to how it turned out.

I had gotten the material while shopping with my sister-in-law on Black Friday.  It was the first time I got to shop Black Friday in over 10 years.  But this time I was shopping for fabric.  We had a lot of fun and surprisingly there were not as many people there as I thought would be.    These are some of the fabrics used.

I started out by making 9 - 16 inch blocks all the same.   (Fussy cutting the center square)

Then set them diagonally adding hour glass blocks in-between.  I even fussy cut the large triangles on the sides to match the center of the blocks.  Then, I added a plain dark Teal triangle in each corner to make it square.  Once I got all my blocks sewn together, I added a 1 inch dark brown boarder, followed by a 3 inch printed boarder.

When the top was completed, I machine quilted an all over feather pattern and hand sewn the binding on.  Next, was to carefully wrap and mail it to her in PA so she gets it for her birthday.

Well, I don’t know about anyone else, but when I had it three quarters of the way finished….I was thinking of my next project.  I always have at least 3 different things going at once.  Even when I finish one, I am starting another.  Well, this one is now finished, So here I go……

Friendship Rings

Check out my Friendship Ring quilt.  I found a picture in a magazine which was made using pastel colors.  I just had to make one but I made mine in brighter Bali fabric.

It looks a lot more complicated to make than it is.  I had a lot of fun putting these colors together.  I used a total of  56 - 8 ½ inch blocks.   ( 28 of each size)

When finished, I machine quilted it with a stipple pattern all over and hand stitched the binding on.  Total size is:   67 ½” X  76 ½”.

OK, off to my next project, whatever that may be…………..

Snowmen

Hay, Christmas is over but it is still "Winter"!!   This is when I decorate with all my snowmen.  I just had to share my new Snowmen Table Topper with everyone.

I seen it in a magazine a year ago and made it for my son's girlfriend.  I think it was so cute, I had to make one for our table.

The Snowmen were easy to make.  I machine appliqued them onto blue and white snow flake fabric.

It was machine quilted in the ditch and then monofilament thread was used to attach the binding.  When finished I added black round buttons for eyes and then regular buttons.

So.......Do you decorate with Snowmen for Winter??

All in Fun, Coffee and Teals

The Holidays are over and everyone is back in their routine.  For me, January is a so called “Clean-up” month.  I am trying to finish all my projects that I started last year.  This was the last one, I am  now caught up.

I made this top before the Holidays but never got it quilted.  It is made of Coffee and Teal colored fabric.

My husband and I went back to PA to visit family for a week over Thanksgiving.  While there I was able to purchase a lot of fabric and had gotten many ideas for Christmas presents and decorations.

After I got all the little projects done, I was able to get back to this quilt.  It was made of 2 different blocks, that I alternated diagonally. I used a total of 25 - 6 inch blocks.

            See my inspector??

Then I made a diagonal stepping stone block for the sides to fill in and make is square.  I used a total of 12, three on each side.  I also used scraps for the corners.

It is now complete, YEAH!  I machine quilted an all over stipple pattern then hand sewn the binding on.  Total size is 46 ½” X 46 ½”

I am now all caught up ready to start new projects for the year.  What I should do is organize my room………..Nah……..I would rather quilt.  It would not stay anyway.

Keeping Warm

Winter is upon us and the nights are very cold (depending where you live). I have made two special flannel quilts, one for my mother-in-law and the other for my sister-in-law.

I started making these two quilts the beginning of December and got them finished a week before Christmas.  I made them both with similar colors but used simple blocks to make different patterns.  The flannel is a very soft cotton flannel with warm colors.

I used a thicker cotton batting, one that can be washed and washed and will not distort.  Then I put a soft Fleece backing on them for extra warmth.  They are heavy, and very warm.  Because of the thickness, I tied them every other block.

They both love their quilts and will be warm this winter and more winters to come.

What did you make lately?
