A Fresh Snow Hop!

Today is the first day of the "A Fresh Snow Hop" and it is my day to show what I made!

I want to give a big thank you to Marian Pena, at Seams to be Sew .  She came up with a great hop here and did a lot of work organizng and getting it all together.  THANK YOU!

That being said....who don't like snow?

(Gee, maybe I should re-think that, lol)

We do not get a lot of snow down here in Tennessee.  Surly, not what we are use to.  And most of the time when it does snow, it is all melted by noon.

This year we have been having a very warm winter so far.  Why we were 74° on Christmas day.  The last 2 weeks we were averaging in the 60's!
Oh, I am not complaining, it is nice not to be so cold, just hope it don't mean a hot summer.
(I must confess though, I miss the snow.  I got a lot of memories with snow.)

OK now,  I have been working on this for quite a while.  Since I really like snowmen and blue is my favorite color. This was perfect! See, a friend of me be gave me this adorable pattern

from "Bird Brain" designs, the beginning of November.  I worked on this whenever I could.  I wanted to get it finished and hang it up to enjoy it.   With the holidays and everything else, well, that just didn't happen.  It took longer to embroider than I thought.

My Snowmen:

(I don't know why the picture shows up yellow, believe me they are white!)

Now, the pattern shows it as a Table Topper.  But anyone who knows me, knows that I don't follow directions.  I have to do it my way.  Not only that, all the work put in the snowmen, I wasn't going to take any chances of getting anything spilled on them.

So I decided to put a boarder around them to look like a frame.
Kinda like a ribbon perhaps?
I drew some paper piece patterns.

Now, I could have just sewed my pieces together, but I decided to do paper piecing for 2 reasons.
1.  They will get perfect.
2.  I need the practice.

So I cut out my triangles in an approximate size needed.

Then I started sewing them together.
UGH!!
The most horrible thing happened!
Yes!   My Pfaff quit sewing!!
I don't have to tell you how upset I was!
My poor husband tried and tried to fix it.  He knows how I love that machine.  But unfortunately, it needs a new part.
Lucky, I have a great Featherweight I could use.  So the next day I finished my boarder.

Here is where my design wall came in handy.  I put the snowmen up, then the blue ribbon around and then the snowflake printed fabric.

Hmmmm.

Decisions, Decisions!  I wanted to show off the snowmen, not the boarder.

Sooooo....
Here it is:

After all that, I just didn't like the blue ribbon boarder.  It looked too over bearing to me.  I wanted something simple.

Total size is:   38 1/2" X 10 1/2”

Oh, I also made these snowmen for my mini stands:

You ask what I am doing today? Hmmm, not sure yet, but for now, I am going to see all the other beautiful "Snow" projects that are shown today.  I hope you join me.

OH, BUT WAIT!

I love all your snowmen projects! As for who doesn't like snow? Some people like me, who live in New England where it snows all the time!

I think it should be common knowledge now that I love love love the snow.. Winter is my favorite season, I'm always sad when their is so little snow each year.

I love all your snowman projects to, and I don't think the border is so overwhelming, after all, bluework is hard to see either way even if you have it surrounded by nothing at all. When you open the larger image, the bluework really shines and while I can see the border, I see the bluework also.. It's a lovely wallhanging. Lots of handwork, lots of patience that I personally wish I had. :)

Your snowmen are wonderful! From far away I agree the border is the first thing you see but then close up the beautiful blue work shines. I would leave it. I'm in Vermont and we don't have hardl any snow either. I miss it.

Love your snowmen...what beautiful stitching. I even like the border. It grabs your attention and makes you go in for a closer look. It's all personal preference though. LOL!! What fun mini's too. I have one of those stands, and had big plans of making many mini's to change out...What the heck happened to that plan?????? :-)

No snow here in south Mississippi, some winters, not often we get a short flurry, but don't blink or you'll miss it! I love your embroidered snowmen-I try to put a little something hand-embroidered in all my quilts. Thank you, Susan

Your Bird Brain design is great with the triangles, but I think I see what you mean about wanting a different border. The other snowmen are cute, too, though I think I prefer the first design. I love stitchery. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.

Love your Snowmen, I agree the White fabric is a deterrent, but love the look with Red & Blue threads.., Wonder if & how much Scotchguard it would take to keep it white, but not be sticky?
sorry about your machine.

All of your snowmen projects look wonderful! I love to decorate with snowmen but I've had enough of the snow already and it's only January. I like the border you added to the bluework snowmen. I finished a snowman runner today from a Sweetwater design.
