Log Cabin Quilts

Did you ever take any quilting classes?  Well I never did till this last week.  I went with a friend of mine to another friends shop in Martin.

We had so much fun...the lesson was on the proper way to make the Log Cabin block.  Now, my first thought was, I made those blocks, they are easy.  But, I learned real quick, with the proper ruler, they are sooo much easier.

This ruler does all the calculating for you.   It not only will make the proper width you want but gives you the measurements for each strip.

There were only 6 of us so you know we got a lot covered .  We each got a book and ruler.  The book was "Log Cabin ABC's" by Marti Mitchell.

It is a great book with lots of ideas, patterns, and complete easy to read instructions.

Linda (our instructor) started by going over the first part of the book. Where the log Cabin block originated and how the center block is usually red (representing fire or heat inside your cabin), then picking fabrics.

Next, we all picked our fabrics and after being showed how to use the ruler, we cut the pieces out:

After we cut them out, we sewed them together.  So many ways to place them:

My Mystery Quilt

Did you ever do a Mystery Quilt?   Perhaps tou joined in with a group of ladies you know, perhaps your guild, or even on a specific site?  Well I must say, they are a lot of fun.

Last year our Guild (here is West TN) did a mystery quilt together.   Snice it was our first, it was on the "easy" level.  It was called " Summer Breeze".

The first month I passed out a simple guideline to explain what we will be doing and the fabric needed.  It also explained how to cut your fabric.

Step two, we started to sew some squares together.

Then for the last step, putting the blocks together.

As far as boarders, everyone was on their own.   They could go by pattern, make them wider, smaller, add 2, etc.

And here is mine, I decided to add appliqué flowers in my boarders.

As you can see, we all had a lot of fun and did it in our own way.  

Why, some of the girls just gathered the pattern to make later.

We Support You, Today and Everyday!

Today is my day and I have to say that this is the most heart warming hop I ever seen.
We are supporting our ladies and everyone else who are dear to us that faces the challenges trying to fight this horrible disease.

I want to give Madame Samm a big thank you for this hop and supporting all those in style with her beautiful pattern.

Cancer has struck so many in our family.  My cousin was diagnosed with Breast Cancer 11 years ago, all three of her children shaved their hair off to support her.  She fought long and heard but unfortunately lost the battle a year later.

My father also was diagnosed with prostrate cancer a year after his retirement.  He was one of the lucky ones that went into remission and (knock on wood) still no sign of it returning.  The sad thing is while he was fighting, so was 2 of his brothers, they were not as lucky and we lost them both.

I feel very proud to be in this hop and to show my support.

On a lighter note.....Sally has been very busy quilting with her Aunt and they made a Friendship Quilt to show their support.

Then I made this, again shrinking the pattern a little..

I appliqued the bra and heart.  The hanger and bra straps, I embroidered. 

Perfect for my coffee in my room.
