You will not believe what I have been up to!!
I have been working on so many quilts here lately, I decided to take a brake. So, for the past 2 days I have been making little Hand Bags. Or some could call them Cosmetic Bags. Whatever, you want to put in these little things, it will work.
I started by making my pattern and cutting out an appliqué flower, stem and a leaf.
Next, I picked out what kind of fabric I wanted for the outside to put my appliquéd flower on. Chose my fabric for the lining (I chose white silk for this one) and cut it all out including the batting.
Then I arranged my flower, stem and leaf to where I wanted it to be on the bag and appliquéd it on by machine using the monofilament thread so not to be seen.
Here is where I did any quilting to the bags. I quilted a flower on the back of this one but on the front I just quilted around the flower. Next was to start sewing it all together. Remembering to have right sides together, I sewed the two sides first, then the bottom. I then repeated this step with the inside lining. So far, no problem, this was going fast.
Using a 7 inch zipper, matching the fabric, I sewed it onto the bag. Then tacked it into the inside. Again using monofilliment thread so not to be seen.
.
I painted a thin line in the flower to show off the petals. My bag was now completed. Total size is: 9 1/2" X 5 1/2" X 1 1/2" deep
This was so easy, I made lots more, some with applique, some without. Here is a picture of a few of them. It was a great way to use some of my larger pieces of scrap fabric up and WOW, won’t they make great gifts??
OK, Now for what everyone has been waiting for.............
