Now it is time to show you what I did. (or should I say, tried to do) I had a tough time deciding what I wanted to put onto a stamp. My first thought was to make a Photo type quilt for our son and his fiance. I wanted to make something special for their new home, and thought perhaps, I could incorporate it in. It almost worked. I took lots of pictures of them from moving to playing with their dogs in their new yard. I took some really good pictures. My thought was to make a collage type and have two stamps so it looks like it was mailed to them. Here are the two pictures that I wanted for my stamps:
Delia
Morgan
After I downloaded all the pictures I did some fancy photo adjusting, and got my fabric sheets ready for the printer. First, I cut my white fabric,
Then, carefully, I glued it to my paper for printing.
I know....I am cheap, I always use quality white fabric and heavy paper so it will glide through my printer with ease. But you can always buy your fabric sheets. Here are some that I have purchased a while back. I didn't want to use these for they were an off white fabric and would not match what I had in mind.
.
Well, to my surprise....my printer DIED!!! Of all times! I tried everything. I cannot copy, nor print. (But, I did find out that it will scan pictures into my lap top yet. Wow, that is no good to me.) Guess I need to do some research and find out what is a good printer, I definitely need to get one. Any ideas as to which one is best?
OK...Plan B.....I need to re-think my stamp....So I drew the truck that my husband is dreaming of buying some day. He would love to purchase a 1930 Chevy, one that needs a lot of work, for he wants to restore it his way. I could not draw exactly what he wanted. So I drew this:
I decided to make it RED. Now when my husband gets his truck, he wants to make a Street Rod out of it. To make it all original is time consuming and VERY costly. Trying to find all the original parts and all. He says he wants to get it up, running and looking good, so we can go cruising together in it! I know it is not quite what he is thinking of but this is what my drawing turned out to be.
He seen it and just laughed. He said it won't look quite like this but he would take this. LOL
OK, next I appliqued it on very carefully with tiny stitches on the machine. Then I cut it a little larger then the size that I wanted my stamp. I added the lines on the truck to show the hood, door, wheels, etc.
I made it larger for I wanted to cut it with my Pinking Shears. Gee, I didn't use these for a long time. My mother got these before I was born. But surprisingly they are still very sharp.
Now that I got them squared and cut, I found a fabric that I liked for a background. I wanted to make it look framed on a board. I layered and quilted it along the pinking cut edges then around the truck. I also did the binding different. I turned it under and to the back and hand stitched it down. I painted the 12 cents on and then carefully drew the postage seal on.
OK, so it ain't perfect...but I tried.
Thank you for stopping by and seeing my stamp, now, lets go see what everyone else made. After seeing all the beautiful stamps yesterday, I can't wait to see today's. Ready? Grab your coffee and lets go:

Three cheers for trying. Dontcha hate when printers die? They always do it when you neeeeed them most.
ReplyDeleteYour plan "B" is great !
Love your street rod stamp, very creative! Thank you for sharing. I use a Cannon MP560 printer, 4 years and still working.
ReplyDeleteI love your plan B stamp - great job.
ReplyDeleteA fantastic stamp!
ReplyDeleteI have a Dell printer, I don't remember the make, but it is still working.
Your stamp turned out adorable...i am sure your hubby is proud
ReplyDeleteWell, even thought this was plan B, I think it came out great! As for the printer, we have 2 HP's. But seems like no matter what type you buy, the ink costs a fortune! So maybe you should check on the ink costs too...
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty perfect to me! Thanks so much for sharing your process. We have 3 HP printers...they range in age from old to really old...but still working and I've put fabric thru them all - they don't all like it - but they deal! lol
ReplyDeleteYour plan B came out wonderful...My dh would like any truck at this time...great job. Looks like a fun book. Have a fun day.
ReplyDeleteOh it is not fun with a dead printer. But you have managed with this wonderful stamp from plan B
ReplyDeleteI love your red car stamp.
Thanks for sharing your creativity and being part of this blog hop
GREAT stamp! I have an HP inkjet printer that's about 4 years old now. And B.I.G.
ReplyDeleteYour stamp Is simply wonderful! I think it is "perfect".
ReplyDeleteYou did a very nice job with your truck. You draw very well. Love the red truck!
ReplyDeleteWow! You drew a fabulous car and all the details on that stamp. I can do chicken scratch (unless it's computer generated). I think your stamp is wonderful and it reminds me of what I did for my husband and my stamp post on Monday (not a car, btw). Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJane your stamp is adorable, thank you for hoping. I am a new follower
ReplyDeleteHey! Your stamp is awesome! Nothing to complain about from where I am sitting. Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the stamp. You put a lot of hard work into drawing and makeing that truck stamp. I have a Brother MFC 240-C printer. I like it no problems with it and I've had it for about 4 or 5 years now I think. I order all my ink cartridges from 101 inks dot com. So much cheaper for ink cartridges their than at the regular stores.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't live without my printer! Great stamp -- and more proof you are creative in MANY ways!
ReplyDeleteI love your truck stamp, it came out great! I have a HP Photosmart printer/scanner/copier. It does a great job, except I tried printing on fabric that I prepared itself and it jammed. It does print on the fabric sheets you purchase though without a problem.
ReplyDeleteYour truck is great and your husband should just love it! Sorry about your printer..:( I have an old Canon and love it. My tip would be to buy a printer with individual ink cartridges.... much cheaper to use, especially if you buy refills on ebay. Thanks for sharing today!
ReplyDeleteOh you did a great job on that truck..you didn't need that printer at all!!! I do follow and my printer is a wireless HP inkjet.
ReplyDeleteFabulous stamp!
ReplyDeleteI have to share 'my' printer with the rest of the family!!
Great stamp with all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteJust Perfect!!! and to paint the stamp on! Genius at work!! I would say!! I used my Lexmark to help me make my stamp....:):)
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job! My dad would have loved that truck! I too have a pair of my Mom's pinking shears and they still work great!
ReplyDeleteI use HP printer/scanner combos for all my printing. I've had a few die on me and it is so frustrating when I'm in the middle of a project. Your truck stamp is beautiful...I love that you drew it yourself!
ReplyDeleteWell, I hate to say it, but we are so lucky that your printer died!! You have surely inspired me to get out a pencil and paper and put my imagination to work. What a great stamp...and yes, my hubby would love it too, but it would have to say "Ford" on it for him. I have always dreamed of finding a really old one and putting it in a big rock garden at the entrance of our driveway. Looks like we will both be searching for our dream trucks! Til then, you have a fabulous stamp and my stamp of approval! (which absolutely means nothing) LOL!
ReplyDeleteLovely 'stamp'. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour truck looks perfect to me :) I almost did my 49 Mercury but thought to save it for a different time...it is in pieces in the garage anyway, lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty stamp! My brother does the "street rod" thing! You're right! Lots of work and expense, but you have a gorgeous finished project.
ReplyDeleteI have a pretty new Canon MX892. Not extremely expensive, but really a nice printer/scanner/etc. Good luck in choosing a printer. My computer died last week and a new one arrives tomorrow! We certainly learn to rely on our tools!
You made an adorable stamp! now on to printers. None ever last too too long, my theory is to get one that has reasonably priced ink. I usually stay with HP or Lexmark. I've gotten wireless ones for $49-59 and they work great. HP seems to have programs that want to update all the time but Lexmark doesn't. Good luck
ReplyDeleteVery creative! Your technical difficulties inspired you to do something totally original...way to go!
ReplyDeleteWow! And this is plan b?? Terrific job! Congrats on being one of the chosen.
ReplyDeleteFor a printer we love HPprinters..we have had good success with them. I would suggest checking price of replacement ink costs before deciding which model.
Love your truck stamp. Nicely done. I'm a new follower. I have a very simple printer from Dell that my sister rec'd with purchase and gave to me. It always works and I think it's because it is just a simple thing. I also have a photo printer that I never use anymore because it was just too much trouble.
ReplyDeleteYour car stamp turned out great! Don't just look for a great printer, but look at how costly the ink is to replace. A lot of printers will cost you a ton in ink no matter what you pay for the printer. I bought an inkjet printer and it barely printed a dozen things before the ink ran out and you cannot even choose black to save on the color as it uses all colors to print the black too. I have the printer, but will only buy more ink when I really need to print on fabric. Meanwhile I use for all my paper printing our trusty old Dell 1110 laser printer which the ink is cheap and lasts for 100's of printings. Too bad the laser is not for printing on fabric because it's a great printer and has lasted us for years.
ReplyDeletevery fun! wonderful work.
ReplyDeletelove the truck stamp...nice we can go with plan b and it turns out just as well. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI understand printer problems...I haven't had a printer for over a year now because it isn't compatible with my new computer....bummer...so now I have to depend on others to print things off from their computer.
ReplyDeleteWe have a brother printer, it is okay, but pictures don't always come out great. missysaprons@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLove it! And so would my hubby:)
ReplyDeleteMy husband like to work with cars to restore. Love you stamp and your talent. I have a HP Photosmart C5250 and so far have not had any problems. I am a follower.
ReplyDeleteI really like your Plan B stamp-such a cool truck! My printer is a Cannon MP560 I think. Thanks for sharing your stamp and good luck printer shopping! vickise at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteJane i love everything about your stamp...no really i really love it and so will others...you will see wink
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, I love it!!! Great job. Congratulations on making top picks.
ReplyDeleteI sympathise, I am addicted to printing my ideas on fabric or tee shirt transfers and both of my printers have acted up for this hop. Love what you did to improvise a stamp. If you didn't tell we would never have guessed. It is great.
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed! Great idea! Great stamp!
ReplyDeleteRed is the perfect car color!! Love your stamp!!
ReplyDeleteI think that your stamp is wonderful. You are very talented. The truck is great.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
cheers

I love your stamp. One of my favorite pictures to make is a red pickup truck. I have made them in embroidery and applique. I put different seasonal things in the back. Love them. Our printer is a HP Photosmart 6510. Has worked great and I think the ink isn't as expensive as some others.
ReplyDeleteVery cute. Love the little stamp. Nice give away.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower. Sorry about your printer biting the dust. :( We have a Brother. Never given us a lick of trouble. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I feel your pain, our printer just stopped working so we decided to buy a wireless one because I have an iPad but we haven't been able to figure out how to get it running.lol Any way I love your red truck and you did a wonderful job on it .
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being the creative pick of the day! Superb job for it being Plan B!
ReplyDeleteHow unique. Great job--I could hear your creative wheels running way over here.
ReplyDeleteI just got a new HP and the photo printing is excellent. Keep in mind, they are making them cheaper and selling them cheap. The tech said the average printer lasts three years!
I love your little truck stamp! Much nicer price than the truck your hubby has in mind too. Sorry about your printer. I'm not much help. I have 2 Epsons that are many years old but still chugging along. One of them also prints on CDs which is a feature I love.
ReplyDeletemy printer is a kodak all in one.
ReplyDeleteand your truck is WOW! WE just had a car show at the nursing home tonight and there was a truck similar to it here! very cool!
I think it was more than a try - you did a great job - I enjoyed my visit :)
ReplyDeleteYou did a super great job on your "Stamp". Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat truck! Sorry about the printer. I don't know that I would recommend any--we seem to have problems with ours every time we turn around! thanks for sharing a terrific stamp. I also have my mom's pinking shears.
ReplyDeleteJane, that stamp is great! I couldn't have done that, I would have just melted down! LOL I have a HP Officejet G55. It can do anything. I bought it several years ago and it is still going strong. It loves to drink color cartridges though. I use 3 colors to one black cartridge. Costs $72 for a black and a color cartridge. That is it's only fault though.
ReplyDeleteI think your stamp quilt is wonderful!!! VERY clever!!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the printer. You persevered and made a lovely stamp anyway.I love the old cars, too.
ReplyDeleteFabulous!
ReplyDeleteDarned computers and peripherals! BUT you hung in there and I daresay, your plan B is probably something that your husband will enjoy seeing around the house!
ReplyDeleteI have a HP Deskjet F4240 all in one. I like it better than any of the lexmarks I had prior to that. None of them last forever though. I'm on my 4th one now since 99?? Hope you get it figured out!
THX for the giveaway opportunity. Bright colorful and fun designs judging from the cover. I am a follower from previous blog hops.
we have a cannon printer and it works, but its not really my department! As long as it prints!
ReplyDeleteHi jane-I understand your frustrations as I'm sure we've all experienced them. I have an HP printer that I got at Costco. It works great printing on fabric, but uses a lot of ink, but I think they all do. Your drawing of the car is fantastic-so I'm jealous of anyone with that talent. Your stamp turned out great. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove that old truck and red was perfect. I think it's the perfect stamp! When we needed a new printer a couple of years ago, my daughter said that most printers are good nowadays and they are cheap. They make them cheap because they get you in the new ink cartiridges they sell!! Check out: www.komando.com
ReplyDeleteKim has information on just about anything computer related so I'm sure you can find some great tips on her site.
Well, your stamp turned out great! I'm not sure what type of printer I have but when I want to print on fabric I usually use the freezer paper method. Instead of freezer paper though I use Palette Paper (from the art section at AC Moore). It is like freezer paper but comes in a tablet form so it's not so curly. I iron on my piece of fabric then cut it down to printer paper size. Glides right through the printer!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane - I received my darling Wonderfully Whimsical Quilts book and there are some really cute quilts in here!! Thank you again for hosting this giveaway!!
