Yesterday I started another quilt. (I always have a couple things going at the same time) I started cutting out pieces for another Kaleidoscope quilt. This one in browns and a little burgundy. I have made strips of 3 1/2 inch light browns, 1 1/2 inch burgundy, then a 3 inch dark brown. Sewed them together then used my Kaleidoscope ruler to cut them out. The blocks will be 11 inches, and I will need 36 total. That means I will need 288 pieces of each plus 144 pieces for corners. I only got to make 38 pieces so have a ways to go. Now that I have this one going, my Perennial near together, it is time to think of my next one to make. Any ideas?

Working on my quilts
Yesterday was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, it was hot but there was a breeze going that you really didn't notice the heat too much. I sat on my swing on the porch and did some hand appliquéing on my Perennial blocks. I got all of them done but 3. I have hope on doing them today. I also made 18 stepping stone blocks to go with them out of the same material. I plan on attaching them every other one then put a 1 inch boarder of a plain deep burgundy material to set it off. Then a 3 inch boarder of a printed Perennial material. So far that is my plan, but it is not written in stone. If all works out today, my plan is to lay them out and sew all together. We will see how the day goes.

My Patches
OK, I got 18 patches done. They are aprox. 6 1/2 inches (must trim some to exact 6 1/2 inches) square. (The finished size will be 6 inches) I have hand appliquéd half of them now. This takes a lot longer than I thought it would, but they are turning out pretty good. At least appliquéing some of the blocks makes sure that the points are exact first time around. Shown here are 9 blocks, I made 2 of each so I have a total of 18 blocks. I am trying to decide how to put them together. Do I put them in the middle of a star block, or just put sashing around them. Or I could put them random with a building block. I have decided though, to keep the quilt small for on the wall. I did purchase a larger print of the Perennial fabric for the boarder.

Something New
I am starting to make a new quilt using the Perennial fabric by Eleanor Burns. I got 20 fat quarters in her shop in Paducah last month and decided to make something different. I seen a book on small appliquéd blocks. My first impression was that I could sew the block together without appliqué and save time. But the more I thought about it, I decided why not give it a try. I made some simple blocks for the base. Then did some fussy cutting and placed either triangles, squares, etc. on the original block. Then I hand appliquéd them onto the block to make it look neat and precise. The colors are perfect together. I did add a deep mauve color to set the blocks off. These blocks take a lot of time, but are perfect handwork to take with you. I have been enjoying the Spring weather, sitting on my porch swing, taking my time sewing . I am still making blocks, so not sure exactly how I will put them together. This is just one of many projects that I have going at this time. I will post my progress as I go.
